Konstantin, our app developer in Greece, has once again done a wonderful job. The Android app has been updated and contains now some new important features. One of the most exciting features is the continual play capabilities – if you start audio in one chapter, the subsequent chapters will play in sequence transforming your mobile phone or tablet into a very neat Bible audio player. There is also a new Bible Verse selection for those who need guidance in reading the Bible. The selected topics are the same as in our website. We have been thrilled with the potential of distributing digital Bibles offline, through bluetooth and closed internet circuits, as more and more people use smartphones, even in Africa. During our recent visit to Mozamboque we used our Android Application extensively for personal needs and as we shared it and passed it on to others.
See and install app from HERE – we had to restart our application page on Google Play, after reaching 17000 installs, and some very encouraging comments. We are starting a-new. If you are in China and cannot access Google Play, you may install directly – in that case you download HERE.
We took 50 audio bibles as a gift to the work in the North of Mozambique. We sent 10 to Mocimboa, 300 kms north of Pemba, and left some in Montepuez. Through Paulo we met several local pastors who were happy to receive a sample of our audio Bibles and are willing and eager to help us bringing more into the country. Many were excited about the Wordproject vision. Thanks to Tim and Steven who have contributed to the offer of these audio Bibles.
One of the highlight of this month was the arrival of 400 audio Bibles. We had to ride 2 hours through the Nairobi traffic to the industrial area where the Chinese company has the storehouse but what a blessing to have this precious tool to bless many in East Africa and Mozambique.
These devices arrived by plane and only took about 10 days since the time they were shipped from Shenzhen. This is a great effort and team work and we thank again Steven, Tim and Robin for their help in bringing the precious seed of the Word of God to this land.
Another highlight of this month was the Jorge’s trip to Mozambique. There has been some intense communications with missionary teams in Mozambique and we have been looking for ways to help with the very needy situation there. Most people know the sad reality that Mozambique is the 4th poorest nation in the world. However, some of the sweetest people in Africa by the account of everyone who ever been there or visited. Kenyan missionaries who are working there, they usually go to stay for a few months and usually never come back. Some of these are missionaries we help and many of our audio bibles and some financial support goes to them.
This time we stayed with Arie and Marie who run the Leprosy Mission in the North of Mozambique. They were so kind in receiving us and giving us a nice beautiful room in their place. We are thankful for them and constantly pray for their work that includes evangelization. They encouraged us and we had a chance to look at a piece of land where possibility we can make the future office and base of wordproject activities. More on this in separate article.
We brought 50 audio Bibles in Portuguese and we distribute them amongst several ministries and as personal gifts to pastors and needy brethren.
One of the pastors we met, Malolo, works with prisons and he mentioned that people who are in prison are very receptive to the Gospel and the audio Bible is a tremendous tool to help regenerate and encourage those who are in prison.
We also fellowshipped with Paulo and Sandra, missionaries from Portugal. They were thankful for the audio Bibles and they have a project to record the Makua audio Bible – Makua is the most wide-spoken native language in Mozambique. We made agreements to continue to support the work there and a new trip is scheduled for August, when we should help with the implementation of the Makua audio recordings.
Some of our friends here in Nairobi are departing this summer. We had the opportunity to fellowship and share the Gospel with Cornelia and her before they went back to Germany, after a traumatic experience here in Kenya in a car accident. Also the Joziasee’s are leaving and a goodbye party was organized at the beautiful location of St. Julian, near Limuru.
From Germany, we receive news from the new arrival of a beautiful baby to old-time friend Andrea. She has been greatly blessed with a precious gift and shared that joy of with us through this beautiful picture.
Mark, our dear friend whom we met in Nairobi and enjoyed many happy moments together and shared about the Gospel … is back in China: here is a picture of him with his parents, in Beijing:
A new batch of Audio Bibles should arrive soon from China! We had the cooperation and sponsorship of Steven, in Australia. Steven is the developer/inventor of the chip that is inside the device – so special that extends battery life to over 200 hours. Also Timothy, our Singaporean brother, the main person involved in the production of this amazing device, sponsored part of the order. Robin, in Zhuhai, is helping with the shipping. In total we should receive 400 devices distributed in two languages: Portuguese, aiming Portuguese speaking Mozambique, and Swahili for Kenya and Tanzania. This should be a great blessing in broadcasting the Word of God ti this part of Africa. Thank you to all our partners.
We have been receiving news from Mozambique where the political situation is again unstable. We keep cooperating with some ministries there. Recently we were asked to build and maintain a web site for local work in Beira, in central Mozambique. These are brethren we met back last July when we brought over 100 audio Bibles to the field. The site is up and running. It contains many pictures of their social work and Christian outreach.
